June, 2014:

Super swimmers hit the headlines

Check out page 23 of this week’s East Lothian Courier for a feature on our intrepid fundraising swimmers.

Two days ago they had their practice session at Foxlake, where they had great fun but came out very cold! Let’s hope the water is a little warmer by next week.

There are now three JustGiving pages where you can sponsor the swimmers:

Our Charity Cycle Ride has a new start/finish location

With under a week to go until the start of the Charity Bike Ride, there has been a small change in that the location of the Start/Finish and BBQ will now be at Yellowcraigs car park.
The overall format, time and overall route is the same, and a new map is below to show how the original route links with the car park by path, not road. Also, the riders will now go anticlockwise round the route rather than clockwise.

Future Tour de France stars will be at Archerfield on June 28

The Tour de France may be starting in Yorkshire at the beginning of July, but don’t forget that the much more important Children’s Charity Bike Ride at Archerfield starts on June 28th.

With at least 51 children taking part and supporting adults, there will be 60 to 70 riders.

There is still time for children to enter and full details can be found here. Or if you don’t have any children taking part, just come along to cheer. The BBQ will be fired up at 1pm and the ride starts at 2pm.

And don’t forget the Blackbeez at Gullane Village Hall in the evening. Click here for more details.

Could you swim a mile? These primary school children aim to!

stanleygilbertStanley and Gilbert Mclelland both love swimming but ultimately love football and cricket. They were inspired recently by a trustee on the Sports Development Trust and wanted to help raise money for ‘their future’. They understand that Sports helps children develop emotionally, academically and socially and as they use the recreation field weekly they are super keen to see it develop with the addition of an all weather pitch for them to play their different sports on.

They wanted to do something very different and decided on an open water swim! With the help of an experienced open water swimmer they have arranged to swim at Foxlake, near Dunbar, where it’s quite safe for what will be their first ever open water swim.

After announcing their intention, a further seven children have taken up the challenge and hence there will be a total of 9 children participating in this event:

Stanley & Gilbert Mclelland
Lucy Mitchell
Hannah and Keira Mcluskey
Beth Poole
Calumn & Skye Sievewright
Freya Walker

Their aim will be to each swim 1 mile in open water (very different to their normal swims at North Berwick Sports Centre), which will entail six laps of the 300m lake.

Please show them your support by sponsoring them, and come and cheer them on from 7pm on Tuesday 1st July.
